The osmo system from DJI combines the Zen muse x3 camera/gimbal with a detachable handle, bringing the benefits of stabilized 4K shooting to a handheld form factor. The camera features a 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor that enables up to full DCI 4K (4096 X 2160) video recording at 24 or 25P as well as 12mp photo capability. Basic controls for the camera and gimbal are provided on the handle itself, including a joystick for manual pan and tilt. For monitoring and more advanced operation, there is a WI-FI link allowing osmo to be tethered to a mobile device running the DJI go IOS app. An included mobile device holder effectively turns your smartphone into an on-board monitor. The WI-FI features a range of up to 85’, so you can operate the camera and gimbal remotely as well. Ergonomic handle providing a grip for easy handheld operation, the handle incorporates a joystick for panning and tilting the gimbal. There is also record start/stop button and a shutter button, putting the essential controls right at your fingertips. A trigger allows you to toggle modes. The camera/gimbal assembly can detach from the handle for storage or use in other applications DJI go app remotely operate the gimbal and view a live feed using the go app for IOS. A WI-FI link in the camera allows you to tether your mobile device, and supports a range of up to 85′. In addition to basic operation, the APP allows you to change camera settings and access advanced features detachable mobile device holder. A rosette attachment allows you to connect the included mobile device holder. This enables you to use your smartphone as a monitor to view a live image – streamed via Wi-Fi – from the camera. It can be rotated to achieve an optimal viewing angle. The mobile device holder disconnects so that you can use osmo with other mounting accessories, such as the extension rod 3-axis gimbal stabilizer.

horrible app makes product unusable I received my OSMO yesterday and have had about 24 hours to use it. The device itself is great, and once I master the controls (the thumb joystick will take some time to get used to) it will be a great additional tool to my film arsenal.The problem that I have with this device is not the device itself, but in the DJI GO app from the iTunes store, which is required to even use the OSMO in any meaningful capacity. I wish that I waited for V2 I thought that this was the modern day “SteadyCam”, but in reality it has a lot of room to improve. When it is working, or I should say, when the app is working, it is great. The hardware has a ton of potential, but I hate the app and the fact that you need to use it with your phone. If I were you, I would wait for V2 which will hopefully ditch the app and the reliance on a phone, and instead come with its own touchscreen that is directly (and permanently) connected to the camera…
